Take the well established BTF 130mm spindle horizontal boring machines that have the capability to move 20 tonne loads at 18 metres/minute to a linear accuracy of ±0.016mm. Single column vertical borers and turn/mill centres are currently used by a number of customers for the manufacture of wind turbine parts ranging in size from Ø1.3m, through to Ø3m. With moving table vertical lathes capable of swinging Ø5.5m, to double column machines up to Ø8m, Toshiba gantry mills with built-in rotary tables can both turn and perform 5-axis machining on complex aerospace parts.

This wide variation of machines with large working envelopes and exceptional productivity, capability and accuracy are proving a major success for manufacturers throughout Europe. A fact that is evident as Leader CNC has sold in excess of £3M of Toshiba equipment in recent months for installation in the UK, with additional machines also currently being delivered to Leader CNC’s European sales area.
